Spain is well-known for its fruit and vegetable production and what better place to sample them than at the the daily street markets which take place throughout the Costa Blanca. It’s not just fruit and veg on offer but a collective of all things Spanish – shoe makers, florists, farmers, clothing retailers, jewelers, just to name a few. If you holidaying or looking at buying a property on the Costa Blanca South I would say that it’s prerequisite to visit at least one if not more of the street markets taking place. Street markets in Spain have always been important and some say they make up part of the Spanish culture. Originally the market stall was the only place where local traders could sell their goods. They were very popular among local farmers and the ceramic and textile industry. Over the years there has been an increase in the range of goods on offer many of which originate from as far and wide as morocco and China! Now you can expect to find an assortment of items such as electronic cigarettes, glass curtains, rain water guttering, sun awnings and much more. Most street markets also tend to have resident cafes/restaurants where you can sample some of the local cuisine including tapas, bocadillos, and paella.
Below is a brief list of some of the main street markets which take place throughout the week on the Costa Blanca South.
