Benijofar III Annual 7.5 Race – A great day by all!

Casas Manuel, Benijofar were proud to sponsor the 3rd annual 7.5Km Benijofar run which saw over 800 participants turn out both from local vega baja running clubs and local amateur runners along with a great amount of spectators who came to cheer them around the course and enjoy the atmosphere. Local businesses showed off some of their products such as the citroen garage with two cars on show and Jaime the butcher giving out free sausages to participants! Rio Safari Elche even brought down one of their resident camels to enjoy the fun. The race was won by special guest Chema Martinez 23m.36s (2002 European 10k champion) with the amateur runners putting in a great effort and Casas Manuel’s very own Damon Haymes coming home with a new PB!!

With the help of the raffle where the 1st prize was an electric bicycle (worth 1500 EUR!) and kindhearted spectators we were able to donate 500 EUR to the family of Manuel Menarguez Garcia (13 years) a local of Benijofar who was born with Lesch–Nyhan syndrome (LNS) – a devastating genetic disorder which affects a small number of males born each year (1 in 380.000). Manuel’s family are currently saving money for an overhead track system to be installed in the house which will give Manuel more independence.

All in all a great day was had by all – keep your eyes open early next year for the subscription for the 4th annual race and join in the great atmosphere or if like myself you would rather be a spectator come along and enjoy the day!.
