THE SHOW MUST GO ON…SPAIN AND THE BREXIT

The show must go on!

The decision for the UK to leave the EU has certainly caused a few raised eyebrows – mine were certainly raised as I didn’t think for a second that the vote would result with a Leave majority. I could go on to argue that maybe the voters have been somewhat sold a deal of broken promises but I would rather keep my political viewpoints to myself. The facts are that – current Prime Minister David Cameron is to officially step down, the labour party is imploding on itself and the pound has crashed to its lowest in almost three decades.

What will happen now for UK living in other European Countries?

What we need to remember is that before the UK entered the EU, a vast number of UK nationals were buying property in Spain for both holidaying and permanent living alike.

The Spanish property market will no-doubt have a short term ‘wobble’ but there are many other European and Scandinavian countries who make up a high percentage of property buyers so property sales in Spain will continue progressively. In my opinion, a combination of glorious weather, welcoming nationals, healthy lifestyle, mouth-watering cuisine and excellent travel networks, Spain will continue to be one of the top destinations for those looking at buying holiday homes and those looking to relocate overseas.

The main concern for many is that of the healthcare provided by Spain to UK pensioners currently living in Spain. Nothing will happen immediately and if the UK government agree to join the European Free Trade Association then the free healthcare will continue as part of the agreement. We will have to wait and see what happens with regards to the negotiation deals but Spain relies heavily on the revenue gained by the (unofficial) estimate of 800.000 – 1 million Britons residing here and Spain needs to keep those relations intact as best it can.

It’s a case of watching this space, but having survived a major recession in Spain the Casas Family are remaining positive and we will continue to do what we do best – Providing the best service possible to every client we meet.
